Green Schools Activities in Rang a Cúig!

11th Dec 2023

We have been very busy since Halloween completing lots of activities relating to our Green Schools campaign!

The pupils in 5th class took part in a 6 week ‘Cycle Right’ programme with trainers Simon and Pauline. This course included one class session where we discussed personal safety, weather hazards, helmet and bike checks and road signage. We then completed 4 yard sessions on our bikes and finally we wrapped up our training with an on road session, where we put all of our skills learned to good use! The boys and girls in 5th class thoroughly enjoyed every session and the trainers commended their fantastic behaviour and willingness to listen and learn! It was an enjoyable way to enjoy some physical activity, which also incorporates one of our Amber Flag objectives for this year!

We were lucky enough also to take part in a ‘Creative Recycling Workshop’ where we discussed all the benefits of reducing, reusing and recycling our waste. We looked in particular at bird species that were in danger and how we could work towards encouraging and welcoming these birds into our gardens! We then made bird homes or bird feeders suitable for these birds by reusing and repurposing milk cartons.

Fifth class want to thank Ms. Gordon and all of our Green Schools Committee who work so hard to provide us with these fabulous activities to complete throughout the year!
